It was the last passionate moment of debate on a landmark bill that would see Canada become one of the first countries in the world to legalize gay weddings.
"I see things that have been expressed before that could come down the pike, things like polygamy and others, while hiding behind the Charter of Rights and Freedoms," Lukiwski is recorded as saying in the official Hansard transcript. "I am fearful that societal change could happen."
I think that it is obvious what his true view is regarding gay rights. The question is should he resign? As much as I hate to support him, especially since I’m not a Conservative myself, but his opinion does reflect some people in the general public. Should we expect that everyone in the government reflects the views that would seem equable to all? Probably not! Plus being in the conservative government, are we truly surprised that such a comment came out from one of their own? Probably not!
